It’s a slow week, so here’s a tale in two tweets. I can’t tell if the first has been verified, or is merely speculation.

When asked, Maria Laoise provided two verifications of the practice in Northern Ireland. One is a tweet by the Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service David Sterling who said “Proud to launch our new rainbow lanyards today. A visible way to demonstrate LGBT inclusion in the workplace. Anyone in the NICS can choose to wear one if they wish to show support for LGBT colleagues in this way #OneNICS #NICSdiversity”.
The second is this story from the recent Belfast Telegraph
It was announced on Thursday that civil servants were given the option to use the neck wear in support of their LGBT colleagues.
Launching the lanyards on Thursday, David Sterling tweeted: “Proud to launch our new rainbow lanyards today. A visible way to demonstrate LGBT inclusion in the workplace.
“Anyone in the NICS can choose to wear one if they wish to show support for LGBT colleagues in this way.”…
“Rainbow lanyards are a simple and effective way to demonstrate LGBT inclusion and are worn by staff in organisations across all sectors,” they continued. “NICS rainbow lanyards are entirely voluntary and colleagues can choose whether or not they wish to wear one.”
It will be immediately apparent to all who is not wearing one, whether this is “noted” officially or not.
It’s still possible to hide your dissident thoughts in many organizations. Not in the NICS, and surely not in many other Western European entities (they generally being the most Enlightened). If any readers has information on any of these, laynard-wise, note it below, or email confidentially.
Shipp never answered whether his source was real. I’m guessing Shipp’s case is an exaggeration, or maybe even a forecast, meaning some people might have taken to wearing these without official participation or encouragement. I’m sure you can buy these lanyards in Walmarts by now. After all, something has to hold up your identify badge.
We’re still not at the point, except at universities and media organizations, where the argument becomes “You are free to believe what you like, just as we’re free to not hire you or to fire you.” After that attitude becomes commonplace, and its well on its way, because we are dealing with puritanism, we move to “You are not free to believe what you like.”
There is nothing wrong intrinsically with that first argument. It should be used, wisely, and only when referencing Truth, not (puritan) ideology. The right loses to the left precisely because it tries to condemn that argument, which is not condemnable, and does not try to uphold Truth. Mostly because many on the right do not hold with the (or this) Truth, or because they’re frightened of condemning what should be condemned, or they believe in some bizarre blanket “non-discrimination”.

Everything Shipp says is an exaggeration! And that’s no exaggeration.
The CIA is eaten up with PC. They were in the vanguard of government agencies setting up an LGBTQWERTIOP “affinity” group for employees who lean that way.
They knuckled under early (1995ish) to a class action suit by female case officers demanding career equity. As always, equity resulted in lowered standards. Which means, in counter-terrorism operations, dead people:

But Shipp, an actual CIA retiree who constantly inflates his insights, and calls himself a “whistleblower” (he’s not), is doing what would colloquially be known as “talking out his ass” here. Shipp is the darling of neocons, babbling whatever is their talking point of the day. He is a resurrection of the despicable Wayne Simmons, but was actually CIA.
So, reality: there is a wide variety of lanyard brands available to hang badges from your neck. Lanyards are sort of like tie tacks, or lapel pins. You can advertise your affiliations on your lanyard. Sports teams, government agencies, Beltway bandit contractors, insurance plans, groups/offices/divisions/departments within specific agencies, military branches, and many, many other brands are available–including “affinity groups.”
No one is forced to use any lanyard. No one is forced to use a lanyard at all. You can clip your badge to your shirt with an old-fashioned alligator clip.
Is there a gay lanyard? Sure. Is it required? No.
Like Simmons, Shipp’s babble is tempting to believe. But, like Simmons, his neocon handlers feed him his lines–wrapping little nuggets of near truth in outrageous click-bait headlines.
Speaking of condemnation. The very concept of LGBT should be condemned as both false and subversive. There is no way to prove LGBT claims are true. There is no way to show that LGBT claims are even rational. There is no way to show that LGBT thinking and actions are not harmful to the United States.
I know nothing about the CIA, but the DOJ has pushed this sort of things for years — logos, “ally” declarations, Pride Month events and ceremonies at the DOJ, etc. I was shocked when I found this out, because of course having these makes anyone who doesn’t enthusiastically display them and attend the events mark themselves as DISAPPROVING, whether they actually do or simply consider it none of their business. Forcing people to choose a side at the DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE seems more than a little off…
If you’re stupid enough for the CIA….You deserve whatever happens. It don’t get much stupider than to expect rational in a paranoid, fantasy organization. Working for the government is working down the rabbit hole, be it schools, local, state or federal levels. The insane run the place and we stand there and let them….

The CIA recruiting link looks like every other recruiting link today.
This one is unusual in that it has persons of uncolor in it.
Companies (and the government) are forced to pander to the decreasing intelligence level of recent graduates. It’s rather ironic though to see the Central Intelligence Agency actively recruiting the less intelligent. Is this a case of regression to the mean?
The APA link showing all the drug ads isn’t surprising.

When I first started out, I worked for a company that did brand advert effectiveness studies. One of our clients was Bristol Meyers, the makers of Bufferin. During one of our studies in the early 70’s, Bristol Meyers spent $300 per person in the U.S. advertising Bufferin. How much does any one person spend on things like Bufferin? Kind of makes one wonder how they made any money.

My ex is a Psychiatrist. I don’t know if the APA had any influence on her leaning ever more left as she ages, but she does fit right in.
All I can say is that I hope the APA doesn’t represent it’s members any more than most (all?) of the physical science societies represent theirs. (…as judged by the physical societies’ support for AGW, while most members don’t even though they don’t dare push back.)
